Watch Straps – The Simplest Way to See Your Watch Differently
A watch is more than its case and dial. The strap shapes how it sits on the wrist – and what it looks like when it gets there. Swap the strap and you change the whole character: from modern to classic, from sporty to dressed-up, from cool to warm. Every Lilienthal Berlin watch comes with a quick-release system – seconds to change, no tools needed.
Why a second strap?
A watch worn every day gets worn in a lot of different situations – the office, exercise, evenings out. One strap can cover that, but it doesn't have to. A leather strap that looks right on a Tuesday might not be what you want on a Saturday morning bike ride. A steel-link that commands attention at dinner feels different on a weekend. Two straps is, in effect, two watches – at a fraction of the price.
Which material is right for me?
Leather is the most classic option. Vegetable-tanned natural leather gives a watch warmth and personality – it suits polished looks, develops a patina over time, and becomes more personal the more it's worn. If you want to shift a watch from functional to classic, start here.
The 316L steel mesh strap is the most versatile. It sits close to the wrist, adjusts in infinitely small increments, and reads lighter than a linked bracelet. Hypoallergenic, low-maintenance, and modern enough for almost any look.
The steel-link bracelet gives a watch more volume and presence. Its linked structure has a natural kinship with jewellery – if you wear bracelets or chains, this is the most coherent pairing. More formal than mesh, heavier than leather, and the most visible of all as an accessory.
The rePET strap in recycled material is the more sustainable option – soft, light, with a slightly textured surface that reads very differently from leather or steel. Better suited to more active contexts where leather or steel would be impractical.
Does the strap fit my watch?
All straps in the range have a 20 mm lug width and fit every Lilienthal Berlin model with that specification. If you're unsure which strap suits your watch best, the case finish is a useful guide: a polished case tends to pair well with steel-link or mesh; a brushed case often works better with leather or rePET. But these are starting points, not rules – wear what you like.
